Dealmaker & team player Peter Verheijden: ‘Collaboration starts with trust’.

Peter Verheijden (1962), co-founder of LVH Advocaten with extensive experience in corporate law, feels above all that he is “a lawyer of entrepreneurs and for entrepreneurs. Verheijden focuses on dealmaking in the broadest sense of the word. This includes commercial cooperation between two individuals or between two companies, takeovers or a partnership between several parties. He also acts as an inspired facilitator in the establishment of occasional or structural collaborations. In short: he is involved in setting up and transforming a variety of collaborations – and regularly in terminating them.

Peter Verheijden’s added value becomes apparent when a collaboration suddenly seems more difficult to establish than previously thought. Things sometimes suddenly become difficult for parties who want to work together. For example, because they have difficulty reaching agreement or do not know how to give form and substance to the conditions for good cooperation. Occasionally disagreement arises along the way and confidence in the successful realization of the intended cooperation sinks in. In these kinds of situations, the intervention of Peter Verheijden, an ‘outside expert’ who knows how to smooth the process and succeeds in bringing the deal to a successful conclusion, often helps.

Verheijden is a man in whom you put your trust. The role of dealmaker, sometimes on the interface between advising and handling disputes, is right up his street. He is direct, open and committed. He has a broad interest in the motives, ambitions and dilemmas of entrepreneurs and is thoroughly familiar with decision-making processes.

Peter Verheijden: ‘I attach great importance – during the process – to keeping both the interests of my client and of his|her (future) partner(s) in sharp focus. So that negotiations can be based on interests and not positions.’

Experience shows that both his clients and their (intended) partners are happy to entrust him with the process supervision. That trust is a prerequisite for achieving a satisfactory end result: not only a good business deal, but certainly also an improvement in mutual understanding.

Peter Verheijden: ‘Over the course of my career, I have found that as a dealmaker – more than in any other role – I add most value and reap successes. I have been doing it for a long time and with pleasure.’

As a dealmaker, Verheijden is known both internally and externally as a team player who knows exactly when and in which specialized sub-areas to bring others in to achieve higher performance. ‘Working together in dialogue,’ he says, ‘leads to solutions you could never have come up with on your own.’ Verheijden goes for the highest achievable. Based on the results he achieves, clients regularly recommend him to new clients.
